Book Description
for One, Two, Grandpa Loves You by Shelly Becker and Dan Yaccarino
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
‘One, two, Grandpa loves you. Three, four, rush to the door!” A biracial girl (Black/white) and her Black Grandpa’s overnight camping adventure unfolds in a narrative echoing “One, two, buckle my shoe.” The first series of rhyming couplets ends with the duo’s arrival at the park. The pattern starts over to describe things they see hiking into their site (e.g., “Five, six, hungry chicks.”). The third round describes exploring until bedtime (e.g., “Nine, ten, all snuggled in.”). The final refrain starts with breakfast the next morning and ends back at home (“Nine, ten, can we go again?”) before repeating the opening line, underscoring their love and affection in this story paired with colorful, clean-lined digital images on bright white pages. (Ages 3-5)
