Hornbeam, an affable moose, has three friends—Cuddy the Cow, Eureka the Goose, and Adorabelle the Skunk. Three separate stories celebrate Hornbeams’s friendships through foibles and funny anecdotes. When his furnace breaks down, Hornbeam gratefully spends the night at Cuddy’s, only to keep Cuddy up all night with his snoring. A love of potato salad entices Hornbeam to tag along on Goose’s picnic, only to discover it’s a family reunion and 100 inquisitive geese stand between him and the spuds. Not a water lover, Hornbeam is happy to watch Adorabelle at her swim meets, but she insists that he take lessons and he somberly complies.
