Book Description
for Days with Dad by Nari Hong
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Days with Dad by Nari Hong tells a story of a girl who spends time with her dad. Unlike many stories this one is unique because the girl's father is in a wheelchair, and throughout the day that the father spends with his daughter, he expresses guilt that he cannot do things such as play in the snow, or splash in the puddle. However, his daughter tells the father that she enjoys the things that they do together, playing music, drawing together, and cooking food. This book stands out due to the topic it discusses and how it is presented. The illustrations are in a crayon format which gives the feeling that this is told through the eyes of the young child and she is drawing pictures of what a day looks like with her father. The daughter does not feel that she is “missing out” but treasures it, and prefers it.
