Book Descriptions
for Franny's Friends by Catarina Kruusval
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Franny has a large circle of friends—all stuffed. Early one morning, Franny awakens, announcing to everyone, “We’re going on an outing” (n.p.). Each of the seven animals is named, so as she dresses them, she calls them by name, a pattern that repeats on almost every page. Through her watercolor illustrations, executed in calming pastel hues, Kruusval imbues Franny and her critters with obvious personality. Anger, remorse, excitement, sadness, and finally joy play on even the tiniest faces as the picnickers face a parent’s worst fear: missing children. All is well as the happy party marches home— bandages and all . pwc, lmp
