for The Animals' Ark by Marianne Dubuc
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
It rained, softly at first, but then more rain and it didn't stop. The animals all tried to crowd onto a small island. Fortunately, a boat came by and they were invited to come aboard—two by two! Now what to do to pass the time? Some played games. But then there was a storm! The animals were getting restless. Finally, a bird flew ahead and came back with evidence of land. They soon were able to disembark, and thanked Mr. Noah. The animals are clearly depicted in this version presenting the animals' perspectives.

The animals are huddled together atop a hill --- the only dry spot left --- when they spy a boat coming toward them. Rescue! The smiling captain, Mr. Noah, invites them aboard, two by two. At first, the animals enjoy finding ways to amuse themselves: the sheep play leapfrog, the ladybugs play dominoes, a chameleon plays hide-and-seek. But as it continues to rain and rain and rain, the animals start to get on each other's nerves. And all of them are wondering, will the rain ever stop?
