Book Descriptions
for Jumping Day by Barbara Juster Esbensen and Maryann Cocca-Leffler
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Never has a child been so happy on a rainy day as the energetic young girl in this story who greets the world with buoyant enthusiasm from the time she jumps out of bed in the morning until she jumps back into bed at night. Esbensen’s lively rhyming text follows this hoppy-go-lucky character through the day, which includes a gleeful walk to and from school, providing her many opportunities to hop and jump. The illustrations show the protagonist to be an Asian-American girl who shares the house with her mom and her equally exuberant cat. (Ages 3-6)

From the Publisher
Jumping, running, skipping, and hopping all come naturally to most children, and in this joyful, simple text, Barbara Juster Esbensen celebrates the pleasures of jumping through the day--starting with the moment a child hops out of bed in the morning. A frog, a butterfly, raindrops, puddles, pillows, and chairs all provide new occasions for jumping as a little girl has breakfast, goes to school, and comes home to play. Maryann Cocca-Leffler uses rich, vibrant color in her illustrations and a glowing warmth of expression in her portrayal of a child and her mother as they share this exuberant day.
