Hakeem is a Muslim who will fast all day long with his family during the month of Ramadan, the holiest month of the Islamic calendar. Like Muslims all over the world and throughout the U.S.A., Hakeem and his family do not eat or drink anything during the day until the sun has set. Hakeem's mother makes a variety of foods for them to eat until the break of dawn "when there is enough light to see the difference between black thread and a white thread." They then perform the first of five daily prayers, do good deeds, and repair broken relationships. Children who are not Muslim will learn much from this account illustrated in full color.
